The Black Europe Summer School is a two-week intensive course held each summer in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The course explores the contemporary circumstances of the African Diaspora and other people of color in Europe. Participants learn about the origins of Black Europe and investigate the impact of colonial legacies on policies, social organizations, and legislation today.
About BESS
The Black Europe Summer School emerged out of interest, concern, and commitment by scholars and analysts of the African Diaspora in Europe and a network of colleagues who wanted to produce and share knowledge on race and ethnic relations, anti-racism, and migration beyond the confines of academia and restricted institutions.
Faculty
The faculty associated with the Black Europe Summer School have a significant track record on anti-racist and anti-discrimination scholarship of various forms, including considerations of migration, stratification, social movements, gender, and sexuality.
